A Walk through Callaway Mills History

Saturday, April 15, 10am to 12pm
Location: Callaway Monument (Cypress St, LaGrange, GA 30240)

Beginning with the establishment of Unity Cotton Mill in 1900, Callaway Mills Company provided jobs to over half the population and offered recreational opportunities, healthcare, and education for generations of citizens in LaGrange. Join Executive Director Carleton Wood as he takes you on a 3-mile walking tour through mill villages including the sites of the old Unity, Elm City, and Hillside mills. Participants will also learn about street names and the history of nearby mill-related buildings. He will detail how the lasting legacy of Fuller Callaway Sr. and Callaway Mills remains an integral part of the fabric of the community. This workshop will start at the Callaway Monument parking area at the corner of Cypress Street and Callaway Avenue. $35 per person.

Workshop fees include supplies and refreshments. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Members may register for workshops upon receipt of the Portico newsletter. Registration for non-members begins Friday, January 20. Call (706) 882-3242 or email info@hillsanddales.org to register. Annual members receive a 20% discount unless otherwise noted.
