Earle’s Great Hunt Activity Book
The Hills & Dales Activity Book features a range of fun activities, problems, and puzzles. Earle the Fox Squirrel leads children on a fun-filled journey through the Estate while they learn about the plants, animals, and history that make Hills & Dales Estate so special. The ten page booklet is designed for children between Kindergarten and 6th grade. Students who tour the Estate and successfully complete “Earle’s Great Hunt” on page nine of the activity book will receive a special prize at the visitor center.
Picnic in the Garden
Held annually in May, free pony rides are offered for the children in addition to all kinds of outdoor games including badminton, bocce ball, croquet and ladder ball. Local musicians entertain picnickers with old-fashioned favorites and a mix of patriotic and classic tunes. Admission to the garden is free for everyone who brings a picnic basket and blanket. The more the merrier, so bring your family and friends to this spring affair!
Stories in the Garden
In partnership with the Azalea Story Telling Festival, Hills & Dales will host story tellers this fall in the Pecan Grove featuring LaGrange’s own Fred Newman. Fred is the sound effects expert for Garrison Keeler’s “Prairie Home Companion” on National Public Radio. After the storytelling we will have a commemorative tree planting to honor the 100th anniversary of the home. Call (706) 882-3242 to register.
Halloween at the Callaway Family Home
The long tradition of celebrating Halloween at the Estate continues. Trick or treat for little goblins begins at 5:30 p.m. and all costumed children are given candy bars.
Children’s Christmas Celebration
Children are invited to create their own gingerbread house and Christmas ornaments. One of the ornament designs will have a 100th anniversary theme. The event also includes a Christmas sing-a-long, story time and visits with Santa.
